Text Box: Objectives:
List five reasons for the rejection of specimens.
Identify and describe complications related to phlebotomy that could affect test results..
Present corrective actions and interventions to minimize or remedy situations as they occur.
Describe possible implications that may be incurred in case of inaction or negligence.
Program Description:
Gain insight and awareness of phlebotomy complications and learn some strategies to their resolution that will help you better prepare for and minimize these situations.
Through the use of selected case studies, the effect on the test results and complications that laboratories encounter with phlebotomy and specimen collection will be discussed. Complications encountered include the impact on test results, specimens rejected for testing, and implications with erroneous laboratory results. Appropriate actions to consider, strategies that can be used to remedy or minimize the occurrence, and the impact of not taking actions when these situations occur will be discussed.
